Guided By Voices - Game Of Pricks

My ballot box-stuffing entry for the greatest song ever recorded--and not just at home. No other 91 seconds of sonic space contains as much. Regrettably, I never gained an appreciation for the band until the very end of their career. Nothing quite matches the output during the Sprout Era but everything made during their Bud Light fueled moments with tapes running has threads of genius running throughout. When I am king, every child will be issued a copy of Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes at birth.

Not enough can be said about GBV. Short attention span rock is the best to describe their work. I like the one-take, record everything and put it out there idea. Hence some songs may not be as inspired as others but all hold a flame deep inside, as Troy says a little bit of genius is everyone. And if you've ever seen Bob Pollard on stage you can feel the energy radiating forth. It took me a long time to ever appreciate these guys. I also would like to add "Fast Japanese Spin Cycle" to the records everyone shall receive at birth when Troy is King.
